OBJECTIVE

This was a unique project. I had met David Labrava (DL) through some mutual friends and he was incredibly driven to direct this film he had written, and was set to star in as well. As an independently financed film we had to work around a number of challenges. We had a huge cast of over 30 people so had to work with all of their schedules. We shot this in 10 days! That’s really all we could afford. So we had an ambitious project that required a lot of passion and support to get through it. Luckily, we had it.

APPROACH

DL had a lot of connections with the Sons Of Anarchy cast and crew, so we literally started filming the weekend after the last shot of SOA (ever) was filmed. The crew was a makeup of SOA family and young talent. On this inde project the rates had to be slightly lower than a traditional commercial rate, so we made sure everyone was well fed, and placed a strong emphasis on crew morale, energy, and culture. It was a hard shoot but everyone seemed to have a really good time making it. Complimenting DL’s energy and style, the production was always all about never slowing down and pushing full steam ahead. I found that the more we hesitated, the more our problems would seem to emerge and blossom into new problems. So in many ways we saved a lot of money by pulling triggers quickly, and finding any available of getting DL the arsenal he was calling for.
